Analytics for Velocity networks, counted once at the proxy

On a Velocity network, the MCAnalytics connector on the proxy owns sessions and join addresses, because the proxy is the only place that sees every player and the address they typed. A player moving from the lobby to survival is still one player, and totals are taken at the proxy so nobody is counted twice. The same loader runs on Paper, Purpur, Folia and Spigot backends, where it reports that server's health, confirmed cheat bans and login confirmations. Every board can show the whole network or one server.

Sample data: the Players online chart on the MCAnalytics Overview page split by server, with each backend behind the Velocity proxy on its own line

How it works

  1. Install on the proxy

Put the loader in Velocity (Java 21) and run mca pair in the proxy console with the code from the dashboard. It needs outbound HTTPS only, with no port to open.

  2. Install on the backends

Add the same loader to each Paper, Purpur, Folia or Spigot server. In auto mode it sees Velocity forwarding and runs as a backend.

  3. Each side does its own job

The proxy sends sessions and join addresses. Backends send heartbeats, confirmed bans and login confirmations for cracked players.

  4. Read the network or one server

Pick All servers or a single server at the top of a board. Player totals come from the proxy whenever one is paired.

What you see on the dashboard

  • One total, no double counting

Online now, peaks, the activity chart and the public status page take the proxy's count when a proxy is paired. Several proxies are added together.

  • Network or by server

The Players online chart switches between the whole network and one line per server.

  • Servers online

The proxy and every backend with its state and the players on it right now.

  • One server at a time

The server picker scopes Growth, Players, Retention, Revenue, Health and Fair Play to a single server.

Supported platforms

Velocity on the proxy. Paper and Purpur on backends, or on a single server with no proxy. Folia works too, but because it ticks each region on its own thread there is no single TPS or MSPT, so Health shows those as not available instead of a made up number.

If MCAnalytics cannot be reached, the connector writes events to a local file next to the plugin and sends them when the connection is back. Your server keeps running either way.

Questions

Do I have to install the connector on every backend?

No. The proxy alone gives you sessions, join addresses, returns and revenue by source. Backends add their own health, confirmed cheat bans and login confirmation for cracked players.

Will a player who switches servers be counted twice?

No. The proxy holds one connection per player, and network totals come from the proxy whenever one is paired.

Does it work with Folia?

Yes. Players and memory are reported as usual. TPS and MSPT are not, because Folia has no single tick rate to report.

Do I need to open a port on my network?

No. The connector only makes outbound HTTPS requests to mcanalytics.org. There is no inbound port and no firewall rule to add.
