Minecraft server TPS and uptime monitoring

Every MCAnalytics connector sends a heartbeat every 10 seconds with its server's players online, TPS, MSPT and memory. The Health page shows those numbers now and over time for each server, and uptime counts the heartbeats that arrived against the ones that were due, so it is measured from inside the server rather than by pinging a port. A server that stops reporting is marked stale, peaks show how close you are to your plan cap, and you can publish a status page and badges that players open without an account.

Sample data: the Servers table on the MCAnalytics Health page, with a Velocity proxy and three Paper servers, each with players online, TPS, MSPT and memory

How it works

  1. Heartbeats from inside

Each paired server reports players online, TPS, MSPT and memory every 10 seconds, over outbound HTTPS.

  2. Health reads them

Per server and network wide, now and over the range you pick. TPS under 19 or MSPT over 25 ms is marked for a look.

  3. Uptime from heartbeats

Heartbeats received over heartbeats owed. A server reporting on time reads 100 percent, and a quiet one is marked stale, not removed.

  4. Share it with players

Publish a status page at /status/your-network and embed status, players and TPS badges on a website or forum post.

What you see on the dashboard

  • Servers table

Each server with its state, platform, players online, TPS, MSPT, memory and connector version.

  • Heartbeat uptime

Uptime for the range you pick, with the change against the range before.

  • Capacity and peaks

Most players online at once, when they are on, and how much of your plan cap the busiest minute uses.

  • Status page and badges

Overall state, players online and one row per server, showing only what you switch on. Player names, join addresses and revenue never appear.

Why a heartbeat and not a port check

A port check tells you the server answered a ping. It says nothing about a server that is up but lagging. The heartbeat comes from the server itself, so the report that proves it is up also carries its tick rate and memory.

Alerts can post in the MCAnalytics Discord when a server stops reporting. Turning an alert off stops the message only, and the server is still measured and shown on Health.

Questions

How often does each server report?

Every 10 seconds. Uptime is counted against that cadence, so a server that reports on time reads 100 percent whatever range you look at.

Is uptime a ping from outside?

No. It counts the heartbeats your server sent from inside. A server that stops sending them is shown as stale rather than taken off the list.

Why is TPS missing for one of my servers?

A Velocity proxy has no tick rate, and Folia ticks each region on its own thread, so neither has a single TPS or MSPT to report. Health shows them as not available rather than a made up number.

Can my players see whether the server is up?

Yes, once you publish the status page. It shows the overall state and, if you allow it, players online and one row per server. Status, players and TPS badges can go on a website or in a forum post.

Will I hear about it when a server goes down?

Alerts post in the MCAnalytics Discord when a server stops reporting, for networks linked to your Discord account.
